On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. It is no coincidence that we chose this date to announce some of the star events in the program of the fifth anniversary edition of the international film and literature festival CineLibri! It will last for 15 days – from 5 to 20 October, and will offer glamorous premieres, meetings with outstanding personalities from the world of cinema and literature, spectacular anniversaries, film retrospectives and invaluable educational events. CineLibri 2019 will be held in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo and Stara Zagora under the motto The Fifth Dimension.

The festival envisages 50 films, distributed in a competition and parallel program, incl. captivating adaptations of literary works created in the last two years, biographical dramas for world-famous artists, animated films based on books, new interpretations of classic works and specially selected documentaries. The traditional focus is the gala dinners in honor of different cultures, film rituals and celebrations. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the 500th anniversary of the death of the Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci, the 250th anniversary of the birth of the German naturalist and traveler Alexander von Humboldt and the 120th anniversary of the birth of Jorge Luis Borges, the great Argentine master of short prose! All names that evoke awe. And since in physics and geometry the fifth dimension is connected to a hexagon, which is the shape of the library according to Borges, this fall CineLibri will not spare you temptations, moreover – it will launch you directly into space! Not without the help of one of the most demanding directors that cinema knows – the visionary Stanley Kubrick.

An important focus among the parallel events is the CineLibri Short Movie Official Competition, which has a prize fund and is realized through the Film Freeway platform. We are about to select the most successful films to show them at a special ceremony, which will take place on October 20 at 19:00 at the Lumiere Cinema. More information about the competition can be found here.

For the first time within the festival there will be an international workshop on The Art of Adapted Screenwriting with the participation of real luminaries in the field of writing and adapting scripts – Linda Seeger and Julian Friedman. They will be joined by Bulgarian producer, screenwriter and director Dimitar Kotsev – Shosho. The workshop will be held entirely in English and is already attracting participants from all over the world. Detailed information about the conditions of registration, deadlines, lecturers, schedule and content of the lectures can be found on the CineLibri website: http://www.cinelibri.com/cinelibri-workshop-the-art-of-adapting-a-screenplay/
